5 Small Steps to a Great Remodel

5 Small Steps Towards Your 2020 Remodel

If this is the year that you’re going to get that remodel started, start today with a few quick wins. These small steps will get you moving in the right direction:

  1. Know what you don’t like.

Everyone has little things they don’t like about their home - the kitchen has an awkward layout, there isn’t enough room in the living room to host, or it’s just plain ugly. Writing these down and keeping them in mind will help you know what to avoid.

  2. Have a goal in mind.

How do you want your new space to change your life? Having a home you can be proud of, a place you can host guests and connect with others, and a relaxing place to wind down at the end of the day are all great “big picture” goals to keep in mind. Those goals should guide the design and feel of your remodel so you end up with a home that fits your needs.

  3. Think about your style.

If you’ve been dreaming of remodeling for a while, you probably have a few ideas on what your new space should look like. Write down a couple of adjectives to guide your conversations about design. Knowing you want the space to feel “bright, open, and modern” is a great starting point and can keep you from getting bogged down in the details. If you’re not set on a style yet, take a look at our gallery to see what’s possible.

  4. Look into your options.

Take a few minutes to ask your friends who they would recommend working with. Look up project photos and reviews online, and read review comments to see how local companies interact with their clients. These will guide you towards a company you can trust with your home.

  5. Start small.

    At this point you know:

    • What you don’t like about your home right now

    • What you want the space to change in your life

    • An idea of how the new space should look

    • Recommendations on who you could work with

That’s enough information for a contractor to give a rough budget and let you know what to expect next. A short call or email can let you know what kind of budget your project needs, what the remodeling process looks like, and what the next steps are when you’re ready to get started.

And there you have it: 5 easy steps you can take today that leave you with a “big picture” for your project, a ballpark budget, and next steps from a local contractor you can trust.

If you have any questions, we’re always here to talk. Have a fantastic 2020 & make it a great year!
